The Story Behind B3

why we started

As a mother of four and a practising midwife, our founder has supported hundreds of women and families across the UK and in New Zealand. Time and again, she saw families, particularly Black families, navigating pregnancy and early parenthood without the care, understanding, or advocacy they deserved.

Despite years of working within maternity services, it became clear that change was not happening fast enough from the inside. Persistent disparities, especially for African, Caribbean and mixed-heritage women, demanded a different approach.

Hear Our Story

So B3 was created to build something better: community-led, culturally grounded support designed with families, not systems, at the centre.

We work from the belief that while systems may take time to change, communities already hold the knowledge, strength, and care needed to support one another now.

We move with or without systems… on our terms.

We centre African, Caribbean and mixed-heritage women and families in all of our work.

These communities are disproportionately affected by poor maternal and perinatal outcomes, so our services are intentionally designed to address those inequities with culturally grounded care and understanding.

At the same time, our approach is rooted in dignity, compassion, and respect for every family. We welcome parents from all backgrounds who are looking for safe, informed, and supportive perinatal care, and we would never turn away a mother or parent seeking support.

Who We Serve and Welcome

We provide support by combining peer support, practical resources, and professional guidance.

Our work includes:

Advocacy, signposting, and trusted information to help families make informed decisions

Peer support groups that reduce isolation and build connection

1:1 peer support for parents who need more personalised care

Culturally aligned counselling delivered by qualified Black therapists

Access to essential birth and feeding equipment

This is ambitious by design. We believe lasting change happens when communities are centred, voices are respected, and support is sustained over time, not delivered as short-term fixes.

Our Mission

To make the perinatal period safe, equitable, and joyful for African, Caribbean and mixed-heritage women and families, within a generation.
